Who are we?
In My Experience (IME) is a national pilot project initiated by the student city network StudyTrondheim in 2020. The project is funded by Helsedirektoratet and is carried out in collaboration with local students, the Studentsamskipnaden in Gjøvik, Ålesund, and Trondheim (Sit), Trondheim municipality, and research environments at NTNU.
The project is now scaling up its national efforts. Therefore, collaboration with national networks and initiatives working for students is intensifying. The goal is to reverse the negative trend in young people's quality of life and promote well-being, strong communities, and a more health-promoting student life.
IME partners
Since its inception in 2020, IME has collaborated with networks, initiatives, and stakeholders working with and for students. Collaboration occurs both nationally and locally in Trondheim, with shared goals driving the partnership. IME aims to unite positive forces to reach all students, providing resources and support for a fulfilling and meaningful student life.
"There are many stakeholders contributing to making a positive difference for students, not least the students themselves! This gives hope in answering the question: What creates good student lives for all students in Norway? THANK YOU to all our partners who help make a positive impact for students and for a health-promoting society!" (Veronica Skjetlein, Project Leader IME).
The Students
Student organizations and volunteer efforts, both local and national, are the driving force behind what is needed to create good student lives. Students are experts in their own lives, and their experiences and resources are crucial for making a difference in their daily lives and for their peers. IME collaborates with the Velferdstinget and the Studenttinget in Trondheim. Additionally, the national political body NSO (Norwegian Student Organization) is an important supporter and actor in the quest for answers on what creates good student lives.
The Welfare Organizations
IME also collaborates with welfare organizations across Norway, specifically with Studenter spør, a national service aimed at lowering the threshold for students to voice their concerns and questions about physical and mental health and student life in general.
Networks
The national network Kompetansenettverk for studenters suksess i høyere utdanning facilitates knowledge sharing on factors that can contribute to better completion rates, results, well-being, and good mental health for students in higher education. The focus is primarily on the learning environment and the framework surrounding education. The network promotes collaboration and insight across institutions, fields, and professions. Activities are research-based but primarily aim for a practical approach in sharing methods and initiatives. Here, educational institutions, welfare organizations, and students come together from various study locations in Norway to discuss important topics and explore how we can collectively create more impact through shared structures, goals, and actions.
Research environments
StudyWell at NTNU
is a co-creation project led by NTNU, aimed at improving students' mental health and quality of life through service design and relational welfare.
The project runs until 2027 and is a partnership involving several faculties and study programs at NTNU, Study Trondheim, the student welfare organization (Sit), and the municipalities of Trondheim and Gjøvik.
IME has collaborated with StudyWell to better integrate research with the IME project and its developed initiatives. Additionally, service design methodology has played a crucial role in the co-creation process developed by the IME project: "from student experiences to targeted and preventive measures together with students."
NTNU Wellfare - Nordid science-center for quality of life and social sustainability
develops communities that promote social sustainability and quality of life for all. NTNU WellFare brings together researchers, practitioners, students, and other relevant stakeholders from a wide range of disciplines and sectors to drive transdisciplinary and innovative research. NTNU WellFare works towards developing communities and welfare systems in a more just, health-promoting, and socially sustainable direction. The center's goals and activities focus on four interconnected areas.
IME draws knowledge about public health, relational welfare, and mattering from NTNU WellFare. The project aims to closely connect the research center with initiatives to document the effects of these initiatives on students' mental health.
